3. Use a water spray bottle to spray the dog to get their attention and say “quiet” if the dog stops barking praise and reward.
A spray bottle filled with water can double as a natural repellent to stop your dog's barking. During a barking rant, say "quiet" and spray your dog with water. The unexpected mist of water breaks your dog's concentration and stops his barking. When he's quiet, reward him lavishly. For an extra effective repellent, mix a little citronella oil in the water. Your dog dislikes the odor and will stop barking. Alternatively, use a citronella collar that activates the moment your dog starts barking.
Try this exercise: Buy a squirt bottle and fill it with Bitter Apple. You can also use breath spray. As soon as your dog barks, spray either the breath spray or the Bitter Apple spray (diluted with water in the spray bottle) directly in your dog’s mouth.

Please don't pull out the spray bottle and not use it. The bottle isn't a threat; it is used as a reminder. Otherwise, your dog will look to see if you have the spray bottle and, if the bottle isn't present, will resume barking. If your new dog barks like the house is on fire each time he sees an outdoor cat, you and your neighbors might not be happy campers. Teaching him to be quiet on command can help you keep your sanity. Sometimes solely using a verbal command isn't enough to stop his barking. This is when you can arm yourself with a spray bottle and plenty of dog treats to teach him right from wrong.A child's water pistol or a simple spray bottle, filled with water or a mixture of water and lemon juice, or water and vinegar, directed into your dog's mouth each time he barks will help you to teach your pet to stop nuisance barking. To curb bothersome barking, pet owners can also use a spray bottle. This is an affordable training tool and can be bought in most stores. A dog owner could also use a water gun. It is important to invest in a few bottles and keep them around the home and outside. When the dog begins barking, it is important to pick up the bottle and spray the animal. This should be done gently: one squirt will do and the owner should be careful not to hurt or soak the dog. Once the dog stops barking, the animal can be given a treat.
