I called the e.r. vet with this question, but they were going to call me back when a vet freed up, so I thought I'd ask it here while I wait. My big dog found a ziploc sandwich bag on the ground while on our walk tonight and the bag had some yummy, sun soaked slices of salami in it and once he got the bag in his mouth, he had no intention of letting it go. He chewed and chewed and swallowed the ziploc sandwich bag containing the salami. Does something like a small plastic bag pass through if it's moderately chewed up? I know all dogs are different and I will be keeping a very sharp eye on him until his next poop, but I'm thinking that it'll pass. The thing that has me slightly worried is, he had a day of pretty bad diarrhea Monday and this morning from something he ate (I think it's the bully sticks I give him) and to bind him up I fed him some rice, chicken and pumpkin. So, now that he's moderately bound up, I hope that bag doesn't sit in his digestive tract reeking havoc.
A dog owner would seldom say that he/she has never seen the pet vomiting. Vomiting is very common in dogs. Dogs have the uncanny ability to know what is wrong with their system. Dogs also have the ability to heal themselves. Dogs are scavengers. These animals, even well fed ones cannot pass up the chance to have a go at the spoiled food in trash cans. Dogs have the propensity to ingest non-edible things as well. An owner will surely be surprised to see rocks, small plastic toys, aluminum foil and plastic wrappers vomited by the dog. Dogs would eat grasses and leaves to induce vomiting. This is the dog’s way of ridding the stomach of toxic and unwanted substances. Because dogs are noted for their eating indiscretion, nature has provided these animals with the reflex action to expulse unwanted substances from their stomachs. The most common cause of vomiting is gastritis. The lining of the stomach is inflamed because of the dog’s dietary indiscretion. Although the dog would vomit repeatedly, it would not manifest behavioral changes. The dog will not be lethargic and unresponsive. In most cases the dog will be its normal frisky self. These bouts of vomiting can be easily managed at home. But what do you do when your dog keeps throwing up?

The IRIS Plastic Pet Playpen is almost an ideal indoor/outdoor playpen for puppies and smaller dogs. It’s a bit light and small for animals with some real size to them, but the plastic won’t scratch your floors but will still hold up to the weather quite well. It’s also available in quite a few colors. The solution? This is tough. I’ve been working hard to eliminate the plastic from my own life and thus, the life of my pets. Food storage is fairly easy. I switched dog treats from a tall plastic container to a tall glass one instead. Dog food went from a highly convenient plastic storage bin to a less convenient but much more healthy stainless can with lid. I’ve been fortunate in that my dogs don’t enjoy playing with plastic toys. Sharkey will, if given the opportunity, consume them one small bite at a time. So I don’t have any in the house.Dogs are ever curious — second only to exploring with their noses, they use their mouths to investigate new and interesting things. Dogs can choke on just about anything that is the size of the opening to the trachea, but the most common offenders are small balls, such as golf and squash balls, rawhide and real bones, cellophane, and children’s plastic toys. While CPS has tested the Sleepypod with dummies representing cats and small dogs, Amazon reviewers have had real-world experiences in which the carrier performed as promised: “My car is totaled, I suffered whiplash injury, ”
