Salmon oil is considered one of the most beneficial oils to both puppies and older dogs. Not only does it benefit their overall health, but it also improves the skin and coat, immune system, vision, cognition, etc. These benefits are mainly due to the high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids present in salmon oil, specifically in the form of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These Omega-3 fatty acids are essential not only for dogs but for human health as well. They are mainly found in cold-water fish and represent a very necessary role for maintaining optimal health.
When it comes to salmon oil, the list of benefits can be quite long, especially thanks to its abundance in both EPA and DHA, the most important Omega-3 fatty acids for your dog. However, it’s quite common for pet owners to pose this question: is salmon oil good for dogs?

What could be smarter for your pet than healthier skin and a glossier coat? Not to mention a healthier immune system, better cardiovascular health and healthier brain activity? Just a few drops of our Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil at mealtime is all it takes. Made from fresh salmon swimming in pure Alaskan waters, for that wild taste dogs love. Available in 15.5oz and 32oz bottles.Yes. The oil is the same, it’s simply packaged in larger quantities for larger dogs. Most cats love the flavor of fresh fish and will benefit from Omega-3s just as much as dogs. Use Grizzly Salmon Oil proportional to your cat’s weight; see the bottle for dosage instructions.Grizzly Salmon Oil™ is derived only from wild Alaskan Salmon that have spent their entire lives foraging on a natural, nutrient-rich diet. The resulting oil contains a balanced blend of valuable fatty acids, inherent antioxidants and traces of vitamins that naturally occur in the salmon, which will not interfere with your dog’s intake of vitamins from other sources.Salmon oil is not only great for your dog’s overall health, but it also benefits almost every part of their bodies, from coat and skin, to their bones, joints and even their brain. eHow states that “dogs metabolize fats and oils very differently from humans, and adding salmon oil to your dog’s diet won’t make him fat, but fit and maybe smarter, too”.Ok, so I have looked at Grizzly Salmon Oil and Alaska Naturals Salmon Oil. I like with Grizzly I can buy a 64oz pump bottle, since I have 3 dogs that is very nice. With the Alaska Naturals, though, they have a formula that also has glucosamine and chondroitin, but only comes in a 16oz bottle. My question is this: is it really worth buying the salmon oil with glucosamine and chondroitin or would it be best to buy them separate? I’m asking because I know some people think combos like that are gimmicks and I just want more opinions. Does anybody have any favorites? Also, would giving pollock oil be better or not?Salmon oil most likely is a safe supplement for most dogs, keeping in mind that some dogs might present resistance or side effects to it. What’s most important about supplementing salmon oil is looking for high quality products that will ensure that you provide the best for your dog and not an oil that has all the beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids disrupted or poisoned with mercury.
