This Orijen dog food reviews and analysis is meant to help you choose if Orijen is best for your German Shepherd.
I enjoyed reading your story and give you many kudos for doing your homework. yogurt really does help the stools and it is good for them. I thought that I was the only one that broke down the cost of feeding my dog like you just did!! I do about $2 a day! with 3 dobermans and a rottweiler. I dont feed strictly Orijen this will be my first bag of it because my other “super food” is on recall and me being a breeder and my girl expecting I was not going to take any chances. But thank you so much for your story and review
I have a 2 year old long haired shepherd who weighs between 70 and 80 pounds and is very fit and healthy….have fed Orijen large puppy until about two months ago and gradually changed to Orijen adult large dog…….have had no gas, diarrhea, etc. issues, poops are normal…always get compliments on her coat and over all health….I have been adding a small bag of Now to each large bag of Orijen…..she eats about four cups a day, I just keep food available and never issues with over eating, she also gets raw marrow bones….I find dogs eat less with good quality food…will continue with this food until I am aware that they use poor ingredients and preservatives…would recommend this food, but of-course, as in people, not everyone can always eat the same thing, allergies are more prevalent because of our environment…

A top-quality dry dog food. Experts say Orijen is as good as dry dog food gets -- and it earns top scores from every review site we consulted. Orijen has great meat content: Boneless chicken is the first ingredient, followed by chicken meal, chicken liver, whole herring and boneless turkey (in fact, the first vegetable ingredient - red lentils --doesn't appear until number 16 on the list). The food is grain-free, and carbohydrates come from high-quality sources such as russet potatoes. The one small negative is the use of pea ingredients, which some experts say could cause digestive issues for some dogs -- and that's reflected in a couple of the owner reviews we spotted.Seriously, even looking at some of the minor ingredients in Orijen’s dog food is likely to impress you. According to , Orijen’s Adult Dog Dry Dog Food formula includes such things as dried alfalfa, which is a material that contains about 18% plant protein and 25% fiber, and selenium yeast, which is a natural yeast supplement that can prevent cancer in a more organic way than the more artificial sodium selenite.Add Carlotta Cooper and Dog Food Guru to the roster of those that have nothing but praise for Orijen. She calls it a great food and notes that the maker has "an outstanding reputation," though she also notes that the previous recipe was just a little bit better still. Nonetheless, it earns 5 stars.I work at a store that sells both Orijen and Acana. As of right now Orijen has not changed because it is still being solely manufactured out of Canada. There is talk (and this most likely will happen) of Orijen being moved over to the DogStar plant in the future. Orijen is however about to down size their large bags to a 25lb and slightly decrease the price (which they just recently increased). What I have heard from a few reps is that a lot of loyal Champion customers are not happy with the foods coming out of the new plant. In fact a few people on the review side have mentioned finding pieces of plastic in the new Acana Hertiage line. Guess time will tell as they are probably trying to get into the swing of things.
