A barrel-like cylinder with a tube of fabric attached around one end. The fabric extends about 8 to 12 feet (2.4 to 3.7 m) and lies closed until the dog runs into the open end of the chute and pushes his way out through the fabric tube. As of August 2016, AKC has suspended the use of the collapsed tunnel in all of their competitions due to the injuries that have resulted from this obstacle.
The witness, Peggy Edwards, did her best to coax the frightened pup out of the tunnel where it had managed to crawl up the side. But every time the dog tried to come towards her, it slipped and was dragged even further along by the current. So Edwards called the police, and Patrol Officer Joseph Brazil arrived on the scene shortly after.

It's best to teach this obstacle after your dog is confidentlygoing through the regular open tunnel, both straight and curved. When teachingthe closed tunnel, roll back the fabric chute until it is only about 3-4 feetlong. Train your dog to go through the same way as the tunnel, making sure yourdog sees you through the chute. (you will need a friend to hold your dog if hedoesn't stay well). When your dog sucessfully runs through the chute, slowlystart to lower the chute on his back so he feels it. Then you can lower italmost all the way, but stay at the exit to greet him. Soon you should be ableto send your dog inside while you run along. It is important as you begin tolengthen the chute, and especially to full length, that you cheerfully talk yourdog through the chute. It's dark in there and your voice will help assure himthat everything will come out okay in the end! Also, this is a great obstacle topractice in the rain, as it will feel different to a dog when the chute issoaked. These busy little ground squirrels live in large colonies called "towns", with lots of elaborate burrows covering hundreds of acres of space.
A prairie dog burrow is more than just a hole in the ground, though! Burrows are usually a couple of metres underground with several entrance holes, some of which are elevated on a big mound of packed dirt to keep the burrow from flooding. The burrow is made of a network of tunnels and different chambers—most burrows will have a nursery chamber for the young, chambers for nesting or sleeping, and even chambers for use as toilets! Tunnels and entrances are even constructed in such a way as to promote air circulation, meaning the burrow always has a gentle breeze of fresh air wafting through its tunnels. The craftsmanship of a prairie dog is so great that other animals will use them once the prairie dogs have moved on—burrowing owls, black footed ferrets, rabbits and badgers!
